A simple awareness exercise toward freedom

In spirituality, “being centered” is important against many incidents, bad developments, unwanted thoughts, misbehavior of others, or the tricks of our minds that may use negativity under the influence of outside events to safeguard us.

We will now focus on our only body part that never cares about and is affected or deceived by any of such things, which is our heart, for sure-save for physical things which are not caused by our hearts either. Our heart’s agenda is always clear and the same if/when we are able to look into it.

We will also use one of the most effective spiritual tools: intention.

Exercise steps:

Setting the alarm clock for the intended time is a good practice also for the disciples of zen.

Step 1- Set your intention to spend an hour observing your thoughts, emotions, developments, actions, reactions, achievements etc. Take as many notes as you can.

Step 2- Set your intention to spend an hour to return your attention to your heart center regardless of the things that happen-except emergencies- and of your mood. You are sure you will return your attention to your heart center again and again in any case whatsoever. Never give up this intention despite some failures by oversight. Take notes for this exercise as well.

Step 3- Compare your results.

If you find this exercise beneficial for your life and wellbeing, repeat it as many times as you wish. You can reduce it to minutes as you like.

This exercise may help beginners wriggle themselves out of the ups and downs and mental dust and dirt mainly brought along by ego analyzing the things that happen, for a while.

Returning to your heart center may also help during unwanted events or storming negative thoughts.

It may well be an ultimate practice toward enlightenment, which is not that difficult as there are countless ways toward it for the people who intend to attain it, as well.
